Ghosts of Signal Hill returns with new actors Brad Stone & Chris Bishop

Daring escapes, murdered pirates, ghost ships, buried treasure, tragic drownings, and headless phantoms: it is all in a night’s work at Signal Hill National Historic Site!

Ghosts of Signal Hill is back in full swing, running every Friday and Saturday night at 8pm for all of July and August. Tickets are limited for each show, and available in advance (cash sale only) from the Signal Hill Visitor Centre.

The show returns this year with two new actors taking on the role of the dashing Lieutenant Ranslaer Schuyler: Brad Stone and Chris Bishop.  Brad takes to the stage for the first time this summer on Friday; Chris takes over for Saturday night's show. Show creator Dale Jarvis will also fill the role select nights in August.

Despite being a busy realtor and a father of two, or perhaps because of it, Brad Stone has spent over twenty years on, off, and near the stage. Recently he has performed in the Twilight Zone episodes Escape Clause as Walter Bedeker and To Serve Man as Michael Chambers. He has also played Elwood P. Dowd in Harvey, The King of France in King Lear, Lennox in Macbeth, Mortimer Brewster in Arsenic and Old Lace, Tranio in Taming of the Shrew, Oedipus in In Your Dreams Freud, and more. Despite the fact that this is certainly not his first show on the hill, he still hasn’t gotten used to the cold.


Chris Bishop is a native of St. John’s and is graced with a wonderful and supportive fiancée, Sabrina Roberts, of whom he is eternally grateful. Chris would also like to extend a thank you to Ghost Conservationist, Dale Jarvis. Chris recently performed in the St. John’s Players’ production of VIMY which traveled to the NL Drama Festival in Gander, where Chris took home the award for Best Actor. When not on stage Chris enjoys working to help families as a Child Management Specialist.

Haunted Hike news for the week of Canada Day

Also, starting this week, is our "Ghosts of Signal Hill" program. We open this Friday and Saturday, at 8pm.  Tickets are limited, and are available in advance from the Signal Hill Visitor Centre on Signal Hill Road. Tickets are $15, cash sale only. Then we are back downtown on Sunday with our "Sinners and Spirits" Tour!

Philip Goodridge joins the cast of "Ghosts of Signal Hill"

Returning storytellers Dale Jarvis and Chris Hibbs are joined for this summer's run of "Ghosts of Signal Hill" by local actor Philip Goodridge, sharing the role of Lieutenant Ranslaer Schuyler.


Philip is a graduate of York University’s Theatre program (performance/playwriting). He was most recently seen in Joint Productions’ slapstick farce Don’t Dress For Dinner. He has also worked with TaDa! Productions (Cabaret, Alice In Wonderland, The Rocky Horror Show, White Christmas , Chicago, Evita and several Our Divas concerts), Best Kind Productions (Avenue Q), RCA Theatre (iFrancoPhone, Makin’ Time With The Yanks), Rising Tide Theatre’s Summer In The Bight, c2c (Bent, Beyond Therapy) , Beothuck Street Players (Blood Brothers, Jesus Christ Superstar) Peter MacDonald Productions (Joseph and His Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, Anne of Green Gables) etc. He has written several plays including Eli and The Deathcurse, Above and Below, The Thieves’ Tale, Once Upon a Blah Blah Blah..., and Aquarium. His most recent play, The Ogre’s Purse (RCA Theatre) toured schools across the province in November. As a director he has worked with Shakespeare by the Sea (Romeo and Juliet, Above and Below) as well as his own work Three Tales of Terror: Old Time Radio Drama and The Saucy Personnel. He is also singer/songwriter performing solo as well as part of the duo The Duds with Melanie O’Brien Hutton

Note: due to a scheduling conflict, Saturday's performance will take place in the Signal Hill Visitor Centre Theatre, instead of in the Queen's Battery.

Third season of Ghosts of Signal Hill ends this Friday and Saturday

This has been our third summer for Ghosts of Signal Hill, and this weekend is the finale. It's been a great run, again, and I want to thank everyone at Parks Canada for all their help and support, Chris Hibbs for the photography and for splitting the role of Lieutenant Schuyler, and the staff of the Cabot Tower Heritage Shop for flogging those brochures!

We finish with two shows, one tonight, and our last one Saturday night, both at 8pm. Thanks to everyone who came out this summer and hiked up the hill to listen to our stories. If you haven't seen the show yet, you have two chances left!

The St. John's Haunted Hike, in partnership with Parks Canada, is pleased to be running "Ghosts of Signal Hill" for its second season.

"Ghosts of Signal Hill" is an evening of ghost stories, historical tales and strange adventures, all recounted by the dashing Lieutenant Ranslaer Schuyler by lamplight inside the historic Queen’s Battery. This year, our brave storytellers (that's Jed Baker above, on the left) took part in a black powder training workshop led by Parks Canada's Robin Martin (on the right). It gave us a more familiarity with the weapons of the age, and a better sense of the challenges faced by the soldiers of yesteryear.  It was a particularly windy day on the Hill the day of the training, which made firing the flintlock muskets in particular a little more tricky than usual.

Actor Chris Hibbs joins the Ghosts of Signal Hill storytelling crew

The St. John's Haunted Hike is pleased to announce that local actor Chris Hibbs will be joining the cast of "Ghosts of Signal Hill" for the 2012 run. Hibbs will join storytellers Dale Jarvis and Jedediah Baker for the season, with shows running every Friday and Saturday night from June 1st to September 15th.

Oft' described as an "old soul," Hibbs feels it quite fitting to personify this characteristic through his role in the Ghosts of Signal Hill. Theatrically speaking, he has conspired with the likes of the Shakespeare by the Sea Festival for the past decade in a variety of capacities, though enjoys the extraneous pursuits of photography and writing. He is a local of St. John's by choice, and is continually inspired by the richness of its historical depths and the artisans that thrive within.
