CANADIAN STORYTELLER PART OF GLOBAL STORYTELLING EFFORTS TO KNOW LORE BEHIND STORIES

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI, USA / Virtual – The National Storytelling Network (NSN) aspired to share the stories and the lore behind them with professional storytellers across the nation and the world including Canada, Northern Ireland, Argentina, Scotland and the United States. From October 23-24, 2021, there will be a virtual celebration of spirits and monsters for middle school and older audiences.

The National Storytelling Network has offered many virtual events while awaiting for people of all ages to have access to the vaccine. From 9-day to 3-day to 1-day events, NSN now plans to have virtual listeners enjoy the story and the cultural and historical significance of the stories. The Haunted event includes two fringe performances, a how-to workshop on crafting scary stories from long-time ghost tour guide and storyteller Dale Jarvis, and two on demand showcases called "Clawing the Coffin" and "Shadows Talk Back" that can be viewed starting on October 23 with a couple weeks afterwards to watch at one's leisure.

National Storytelling Network Chair Katie Knutson shared, “While this pandemic has challenged us in unexpected ways, it has also given us the nudge we needed to fully embrace digital programming.”

One of these presenters is Dale Jarvis from Canada who will teach "Building Suspense: Crafting & Sharing Scary Stories." People will look at where to find supernatural stories, story ideas, how to craft a suspenseful story, and hear how fact and fiction blended together to become the chilling and entertaining tales of the St. John’s Haunted Hike ghost tour.
